Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Medicine

Programme Overview

The pharmaceutical industry is experiencing profound changes. Efficacy, safety, reliability, relevance and availability of medicines are critical issues the industry must address. This Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Medicine program gives graduates the skill set to meet these challenges.

The theme of the program is the lifecycle of a medicine; therefore we cover all the critical regulatory and scientific issues that arise from molecule to marketplace. The program is taught in modules so participants can apply what they learn immediately.

The program has been designed to offer the flexibility for participants to study while balancing work and family commitments. Faculty from both academia, including Trinity College Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Harvard and Columbia Universities, and industry, including Pfizer, Novartis, Astrazeneca, Quintiles and Sanofi, ensure that participants get a truly global perspective on the issues affecting drug development and the pharmaceutical marketplace today. Group work is encouraged and participants develop their skills to lead multinational teams, make decisions and deliver reports on ambiguous data in the relative safety of an academic environment. Participants find this challenging and stimulating as it gives them an invaluable opportunity to learn how to be effective leaders. As employers we want to build expertise within, and have staff “who just know” how things work. Salary increases have limited success in keeping or motivating most key talent as by their nature such people love learning, being exposed to new science, cutting edge technologies, personal development and the stimulation of leading intellectual debate. Our program meets these needs, benefiting them and the organization they work for by giving practical training and aiding the transfer of cutting edge knowledge.

The program takes 2.5 years to complete however participants can complete it over 5 years if work and life commitments mean studies must be discontinued for some time.

“This program offers a broad overview of the specialty of Pharmaceutical Medicine that is highly relevant to many areas of practice. The flexibility with rigor provides a superb educational experience guided by learners’ needs”.
